I've spent many years admiring the work of Caroline Bottomley and Shiny, so I'm very much looking forward to a spot of judging as part of the Shiny Awards jury panel later this year. Constantly the finest showcase of 'up and coming' and under represented directing talent in the Industry.#newdirectors #shinyawards #diversity #advertising #filmdirector

“Open on a beach in Tahiti” always a dream scenario to read those words when opening up a script, massive thanks to Revolt and old pal Orlando Warner for the opportunity, and what a crazy, beautiful shoot it was… wish I could have been there Ian Derry. Amazing work. 👏🏻

I felt privileged to attend the X-Trillion film premiere with the PV team this week. Not only was it a joyous experience to see Emily Penn Eleanor Church & Verity Wislocki up on stage after 6 years of hard work, but as an exec producer on the film myself, it was a proud moment to see the Park Village credit up on screen in front of so many inspiring people sitting in the audience to enjoy an incredible story, and a moving achievement by the crew of eXXpedition. My involvement in the film started when I first met Emily back in 2019, and had the unreal experience of accompanying her to Hawaii to learn about the effects of plastic pollution in our oceans, thanks to work done with Sky Ocean Rescue. Our time on such a beautiful island, inescapably surrounded by plastic pollution, really stuck with me, and on hearing Emily's stories and the endeavour of making a film about her previous voyage, I just knew I wanted to try and help get it seen by as many people as possible. So I've tried to add a bit of value, but certainly can't take credit for such fantastically put together film, about such important issues. If you get chance, go see it on the big screen:https://lnkd.in/e6d7AAkh#xtrillionfilm #oceanplastic #oceanplastic #filmpremiere #plasticpollution #sailing #pacificcrossing #oceancrossing #greatpacificgarbagepatch #documentary #filmproducer

Every day should be Earth Day. As a diver, open water swimmer, sometime surfer and general thalassophile (look it up, I had to), I find it desperate to read articles like those recently reporting "coral reefs on brink of global collapse". I guess we all do, but working in an industry that typically promotes consumerism, the endless purchase of mass manufactured crap that we don't need, and having seen the effects of decades of ocean plastic washing up on the beaches of Hawaii (thanks to the efforts of Emily Penn in highlighting the issue to me), it does make me wonder what more I could be doing. So it felt genuinely valuable to produce this film 'Beneath The Surface: The Fight for Corals’ which was released today in the US & other global territories across Discovery & Discovery+. Hopefully, this broadcast documentary for Warner Bros Discovery, will play a small part in bringing about wider global awareness of the issues facing our oceans and coral reefs, without which, 30% of marine life would lose its habitat and likely die out. Which is why it's so important to try to support and champion the work being done by amazing research teams around the world to counter act the damaging effects of rising sea temperatures on coral. Hopefully we've done them justice, hopefully governments and private investment will realise the need to put up the cash required to continue the research. Hopefully people will listen, and hopefully we can reverse out of this largely unseen climate catastrophe.Making a film about it isn't enough, but it does inspire some hope, and it's something we're proud of. I want to thank all the people that helped us bring it to life, but a special shout out goes to the team closest to the work.Production Company |Park VillageDirector |Ian DerryExec Producers | Adam Booth |Oliver AllgroveCo-Exec Producer | Tom WebbProducer |Jane Barrie-BramwellEditor |Sam HopkinsHoP |Angelica RiccardiLine Producer |Jake BishopProduction Assistant |Lyric TreacyDOP |Jean-charles Granjon1st AC | Valentin ThibaultUnderwater Gaffer |Leslie BISSEYSound Recordist |Simon KoelmeyerRed Sea Location Fixer | Khalid M.R. A real privilege to have produced this film with such a wonderful & talent team of professionals. Special thanks to our unstoppable producer Jane Barrie-Bramwell with the unwavering support coming from line producer Jake Bishop. DOP Jean-charles Granjon bought the magic, alongside our director Ian Derry. Topped off with a sublime edit by Sam Hopkins and incredible score from Laurie Shenoda. And of course the rest of the team, you know who you are.
