Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Freedom Wars Remastered
- Release date – January 10, 2025
- Genre: Action RPG
- Developer: Bandai Namco
An opulent 4K remake of the PlayStation Vita classic, Freedom Wars Remastered is a third-person action adventure RPG shooter (try saying all of that very quickly five times in a row), in which players must escape a million year(!) prison sentence by completing missions that pit them against hordes of increasingly deadly machines. In addition to the shiny 4K resolution, Freedom Wars Remastered also brings high resolution textures, environments and character models to the dance alongside a reworked crafting system to boot. If you missed Freedom Wars the first time around, it looks like this is how you definitively correct that mistake.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Dynasty Warriors Origins
- Release date – January 17, 2025
- Genre: Open World Brawler
- Developer: Koei Tecmo Games
Much more than a prequel to the sprawling Musou series that players have loved for decades, Dynasty Warriors: Origins leverages cutting edge technology to bring the 1 vs 1000 spectacle of the franchise to life like never before. With more enemies on screen than any game previously, together with the sort of long overdue, sizable upgrade in visual detail that the series has sorely needed for the longest time, this is the most promising Dynasty Warriors has been in ages.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
- Release date – February 11, 2025
- Genre: Open World RPG
- Developer: Warhorse Studios
The sequel to, you guessed it, 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II once more puts players into the role of Henry of Skalitz, a regular fella in 15th century Bohemia who finds himself caught up in wars, royal intrigue, cutthroat plots and more. Much like its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a first-person, open world RPG with an emphasis on historical accuracy over more fantastical fare. Put simply, you won’t find any magic, dragons or magical dragons here. What you will find though is a massive open-world to explore, filled with all manner of characters, side quests and more. Not only does Kingdom Come: Deliverance II boast a massive upgrade in the visual department over its last-gen predecessor, there’s also a leaning into much more humorous situations too, with our hero coming unstuck in all manner of amusing situations.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Release date – February 14, 2025
- Genre: Open World, Action Adventure
- Developer: Ubisoft
Finally taking the Assassin’s Creed series to the long awaited setting of Sengoku Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows casts players as either Naoe, a shinobi from a broken home or Yasuke, a historical real-life Samurai from that period and intertwines their story with intersectional story campaign quests and separate quests that are unique to each protagonist. Exclusive to current-gen consoles and PC, Assassin’s Creed Shadows makes the most of its hardware uptick with greatly improved visuals, revamped physics and a dynamic seasonal system that can cause the world to change in real-time (think where there was once an impassable lake in the summer, that same lake can just be walked across when it freezes over in the winter). Principally in development from the same team that brought us Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks like it will very much raise the bar again for Ubisoft’s long-running series when it drops.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Civilisation VII
- Release date – February 11, 2025
- Genre: Strategy
- Developer: Firaxis Games
The latest entry in Sid Meier’s legendary god sim franchise, Civilisation VII storms its way onto console and elevates the series tremendously. As well as boasting an overhauled visual presentation, all new ages, the awesome Gwendoline Christie as the narrator and cross-play for the first time, Sid Meier’s Civilisation VII is shaping up to be one of the finest strategy games of the year.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
- Release date – February 18, 2025
- Genre: Adventure
- Developer: DON’T NOD
Coming from DONTNOD, the original developers of Life is Strange, looks set to be a bittersweet, emotional odyssey to say the least. Revolving around a group of friends who make a film about the wistful escapades in the summer of 1995, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage masterfully segues between the past and present as the once inseparable group begin to fall out as a dark secret from the past rises to the surface. For fans of Life is Strange in its earliest incarnations, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is shaping up to be essential and heart-rending in equal measure.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii
- Release date – February 27, 2025
- Genre: Action RPG
- Developer: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio
Arguably leaning more readily into the absurd side of Like A Dragon’s traditional tonal divide, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is and does exactly what it says on the tin. Putting players in the immaculate snake shoes of Yakuza/Like A Dragon series favourite Goro Majima, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has our maddened protagonist sailing the Hawaiian and broader Pacific seas in search of treasure and loudmouth sea-punks to beat down in traditionally spectacular fashion. Oh and AEW wrestler Samoa Joe just happens to be in the game too. Cool, eh?
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Tales Of The Shire: A The Lord Of The Rings Game
- Release date – March 25, 2025
- Genre: Slice Of Life, Strategy
- Developer: Wētā Workshop
It’s honestly a surprise that it has taken this long for an enterprising developer to come up with an ultra wholesome, slice of life sim set around the Shire and the delightful trials and tribulations of the Hobbits that call it home and yet here we are. All the same, we’re happy that it’s almost upon us – not least because Tales of the Shire looks the sort of dreamy, Lord of the Rings X Stardew Valley crossover that we’ve always wanted with a nice dollop of added whimsy on top. Tales of the Shire is shaping up so well I’m sure even the Sackville-Baggins clan would approve. Maybe.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
- Release date – April 21, 2025
- Genre: Fighting
- Developer: SNK Corporation
After more than 26 years on the shelf, SNK’s legendary fighting series Fatal Fury is back in action with the super promising Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Boasting a cast of old-school Fatal Fury characters together with new faces and even faces from Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves seeks to make itself appealing to the largest possible audience of players, thanks to its dual control schemes which cater for rookies and veterans alike, together with the new REV System that allows for a broader range of offensive options. Fatal Fury fans, your time and patience looks to have finally paid off.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Doom: The Dark Ages
- Release date – Spring 2025
- Genre: FPS
- Developer: id Software
Early 2025 marks the triumphant return of the godfather of the FPS genre with Doom: The Dark Ages and honestly, we couldn’t be more excited about it. A narrative prequel to Doom and Doom: Eternal (if you care about such things), Doom: The Dark Ages looks set to bring it where it counts, unleashing Doomguy with all-new weaponry that includes a shield with chainsaw blades, a gun that grinds up skulls and fires bone fragments(!), flyable hell-dragons (!!) and even a gargantuan Doomguy Mech(!!!) for killing demonic kaiju(!!!!). Yeah, this is going to slap.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Indiana Jones And The Great Circle
- Release date – Spring 2025
- Genre: Action Adventure
- Developer: MachineGames
In the absence of Harrison Ford’s voice, the immensely talented and versatile Troy Baker puts on the hat and takes up the whip, giving a superlative performance that deftly echoes Ford’s own gravelly tones. Developed by Machinegames (they of Wolfenstein fame), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle provides players with an all-new adventure that takes place before the third movie and has players, you guessed it, chasing ancient treasures across the world and socking Nazis in the pie-hole. Played from a first-person perspective with an emphasis on stealth, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is part Uncharted, part Hitman and part Tomb Raider as Indy solves puzzles, collects artefacts, dons disguises and outwits his foes. Honestly, with Nathan Drake and Lara Croft still in hiatus, this cannot come soon enough.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Grand Theft Auto VI
- Release date – Fall 2025
- Genre: Open World Adventure
- Developer: Rockstar Games
There will be no bigger title in 2025, or probably for the rest of the decade, than Grand Theft Auto 6, of this you can be assured. The first title since Rockstar Games gave us the previous game of the decade (sorry, but it was) in Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2018, Grand Theft Auto 6 looks to build on the tremendously sound technical foundations of that title by offering up what looks to be the most immersive open world adventure perhaps of all-time. Grand Theft Auto 6 introduces dual protagonists in Lucia and Jason who in a Bonnie & Clyde style dynamic, find themselves on a vengeful tear through the Miami-inspired Vice City. Wherever you are, whatever you do, you won’t want to miss Grand Theft Auto 6.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Borderlands 4
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World FPS
- Developer: Gearbox Software
Undeterred by the dismal commercial and critical performance of its Borderlands live-action movie, 2K Games and Gearbox Software are set to come roaring back in 2025 with Borderlands 4. Though we know relatively little about Borderlands 4, it’s safe to predict that it’ll boast the same dry sense of humour, enough weapons to make both cold wars blush and hundreds upon hundreds of hours of quests to complete. Put simply, if you like the Borderlands games then 2025 is going to be your year.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Capcom Fighting Collection 2
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Fighting
- Developer: Capcom
Capcom has been on an absolute tear with its retro fighting collections and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is shaping up to be the finest yet and honestly, that’s saying something. Packing in Capcom Vs SNK, Project Justice, Plasma Sword, Capcom Fighting Evolution and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is already one of the most intriguing retro collections that the House of Street Fighter has created. Perhaps most crucially though, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 also marks the first time that the undeniably banging Powerstone games and Capcom Vs SNK 2 make their collective debut on modern consoles – and for that we should be ever thankful.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: RPG
- Developer: Sandfall Interactive
Seemingly coming out of the blue, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an RPG quite unlike any other. Taking place in a fantastical world inspired by Belle Époque France, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 blends together turn-based RPG and real-time mechanics together as players find themselves taking on an ethereal Paintress who with an annual stroke of her brush erases more and more population of the world. Boasting some of the most stylish visuals seen in years and an all-star voice cast that includes Final Fantasy 16‘s Ben Starr, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is already looking like it’ll be one of the best RPGs of 2025.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Death Stranding 2
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World Adventure
- Developer: Kojima Productions
The follow-up to Kojima Productions deliciously creative and offbeat open world adventure Death Stranding, Death Stranding 2 looks set to dive even further down that particularly nutty rabbit hole. Not only do Hollywood luminaries Norman Reedus and Léa Seydoux return, but they’re joined by Mad Max director George Miller and Elle Fanning to boot. Though Death Stranding 2 takes place directly after the events chronicled in the previous game, we’re still none the wiser at this point as to what the gameplay will entail. That said, we would be surprised if it differed too much from the ‘UPS man at the end of the world’ mechanics of the previous game. More likely though, is that creator/director Hideo Kojima will surprise us all over again.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Directive 8020
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Horror
- Developer: Supermassive Games
The latest entry in Supermassive Games horror series The Dark Pictures Anthology, Directive 8020 puts actress Lashana Lynch front and centre in a sci-fi horror outing that looks set to rattle nerves. Cast as the Lashana Lynch voiced and motion-captured Brianna Young, Directive 8020 has players trying to escape an horrific planet known as Tau Ceti f and return to Earth. Filled to the brim with cinematic flair, gnarly horror and non-linear choice, Directive 8020 is set to be a highlight of The Dark Pictures Anthology for horror fiends everywhere when it releases in 2025.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Double Dragon Revive
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Side-scrolling Brawler
- Developer: YUKE’S
Double Dragon is back! Sort of. Though the 2D sprites and backgrounds of the original games in the series have long gone, now replaced by fully 3D backgrounds and glitzy character models, the side-scrolling brawler essence remains as players smash their way through all manner of gangs and goons in traditional arcade fashion. Though it might be easy to write off Double Dragon Revive as a 3D rehash of what came before, Arc Systems Works latest fighting effort also boasts a level of strategy not seen in this classic arcade franchise, with enemies now capable of innovating with different attacks and grapples which the player can counter on the fly. Though it might look like it underneath that shiny 3D veneer, this isn’t your daddy’s Double Dragon, that’s for sure.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Dying Light: The Beast
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World FPS, Survival Horror
- Developer: Techland
A standalone entry in the Dying Light franchise, Dying Light: The Beast puts players in the well-worn boots of Kyle Crane, an experimental subject who has broken free of the lab that has held for years and who must wreak vengeance on his captors, all the while the zombie apocalypse at large threatens to destroy his world. Building upon the open-world trappings of the Dying Light series itself, Dying Light: The Beast looks to be sort of efficiently trimmed, yet impactful entry the series needs to keep players engaged beyond the busywork of the two previous games in the series.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Ghost of Yōtei
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World Adventure
- Developer: Sucker Punch Productions
Some four years after Ghost of Tsushima cut a pathway into our hearts, its sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, is almost upon us. Taking place in 1603 and taking in the breathtaking flora and fauna surrounding Mount Yōtei, Sucker Punch Productions’ ambitious sequel casts players Atsu, a wayward Ronin looking to escape from her past in an era of warring clans and political turmoil. Even though not much has been shown in terms of what we can expect gameplay-wise from Ghost of Yōtei, you can be absolutely certain that it will once again be a viscerally opulent, open-world samurai adventure that will rank among the best looking PlayStation 5 titles ever released. Get hammering those wish lists – Ghost of Yōtei is already shaping up to be the best PlayStation exclusive of 2025.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Judas
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: FPS, Survival Horror, Immersive Sim
- Developer: Ghost Story Games
From Ghost Story Games and BioShock creator Ken Levine comes Judas, a title which for all intents and purposes looks to be a full-fat, full-sugar spiritual successor to the BioShock games. Locked into a massive starship that is slowly disintegrating, Judas has players attempting to escape by making alliances with those that you have previously betrayed. Though little else is known about the plot at this point, the immersive sim elements of the BioShock games look to be on full display, players able to use a myriad of unique powers to defeat enemies and progress through the ship, while the environment itself can be weaponised to a similar end.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Killing Floor 3
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World Adventure
- Developer: Kojima Productions
Tripwire Interactive’s horror FPS threequel looks to continue Killing Floor’s particular brand of high-octane, cooperative horror FPS shenanigans as players find themselves working together to massacre a bioengineered zombie army. Promising all-new monsters, equipment, progression trees and an all-new graphics engine, Killing Floor 3 is looking to be the holy grail that Killing Floor fans have desired for so long when it releases in early 2025. Indeed, with both Doom: The Dark Ages and Killing Floor 3 releasing at around the same time, horror FPS fans will certainly be eating well in 2025 to say the least.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Little Nightmares 3
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Horror, Platformer
- Developer: Supermassive Games
As the two somewhat depressingly named protagonists, Low and Alone, Little Nightmares 3 permits one or two players to navigate their way through a nightmarish world, leveraging the unique abilities of the other to see their way through to freedom. Developed by Supermassive Games (they of The Dark Pictures Anthology fame), rather than Tarsier Studios who performed development duties on the previous two games in the series, Little Nightmares 3 promises to continue the series survival horror platforming adventure sensibilities with aplomb.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Action Adventure
- Developer: Skydance Interactive
The next title from Uncharted director Amy Hennig, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra whisks players back to the era of the Second World War where players take control of both Steve ‘Captain America’ Roger’s and the Black Panther as they attempt to take down the shadowy organisation Hydra in a massive, big budget, spectacle-stuffed Unreal Engine 5 powered open-world adventure. Beyond the superlative Spider-Man games from Insomniac, Marvel has long needed a win in the video games space and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra could very well be it.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Monster Hunter Wilds
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World, Action RPG
- Developer: Capcom
It’s probably no exaggeration to say that since Monster Hunter: World released for PS4 back in 2018, that the various Monster Hunter spin-offs and remasters in the interim haven’t really come close to capturing the imagination of fans in quite the same way. Enter Monster Hunter Wilds. A true next generation take on the Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds comprehensively overhauls every aspect of the Monster Hunter experience with refreshed combat and cooking mechanics, gorgeous new visuals and of course, a range of terrifying monsters that won’t leave your thoughts anytime soon. If your last brush with the Monster Hunter franchise was with Monster Hunter: World, then Monster Hunter Wilds is absolutely, positively where you should drop back in.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Terminator: Survivors
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World Adventure, Survival, FPS
- Developer: Nacon Studio Milan
Riding high after its success with the well-received Terminator Resistance (if you haven’t played it, give it a crack – it’s basically Far Cry with Terminators and it ties up the movie plotlines better than any movie in the last two decades), Terminator: Survivors is set to do something a little different with the beloved sci-fi franchise. As the titular survivor in the early days of the machine apocalypse, you and some optional friends are tasked with creating the first outposts for the forces of humanity in order for the human Resistance to be founded which will break Skynet in turn. Standing between you and success however are other human factions who have yet to understand the gravity of their situation and the machines themselves who will never, ever stop hunting you. An open world, survival RPG set in the Terminator universe? Where do I sign up?
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – The Sinking City 2
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World, Survival Horror
- Developer: Frogwares
Developed by long-time Sherlock Holmes and The Sinking City Ukrainian studio Frogwares, The Sinking City 2 thrusts players into the Eldritch city of Arkham as they must find the source of the evil plaguing the city all the while fighting off the hordes of Deep Ones that wish to drag them to a watery grave. Brought to life by Unreal Engine 5, The Sinking City 2 demands that players not only use their trigger fingers but their grey matter too in order to overcome the trials and tribulations set forth in this atmospheric, Lovecraftian detective horror adventure.
Upcoming PS5 Games 2025 – Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
- Release date – TBA 2025
- Genre: Open World RPG, Horror
- Developer: The Chinese Room
A highly anticipated sequel to say the least that has spent far too much time in development hell (which was secretly the hidden tenth circle of Dante’s Inferno), Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 could finally get its chance at glory in 2025. Now developed by The Chinese Room (Dear Esther, Still Wakes The Deep), Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 has players take on the mantle of one of the titular creatures of the night, undermining other factions and feeding on humans, all the while attempting to maintain the fragile masquerade that keeps vampires hidden from humans. An action RPG that is set to have an evocative open world and well-written stories and characters, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 could finally be the tonic that fans of the series have waited for so long to imbibe. And boy oh boy, have they waited.
